Meet your Steering Committee: Rebekah Worthington

Earlier this month, we introduced the new Hedland Collective Steering Committee members who will be joining us in 2020.

Over the next few weeks, we will be profiling each of the existing Steering Committee members to learn a little more about what motivates them and their aspirations for Hedland.

In January we introduced Vicki-Tree Stephens.

This month’s featured Hedland Collective Steering Committee member is Rebekah Worthington.

  1. I have lived in Hedland for 10 years. I moved here with my husband and son, growing our family during this time to four with our daughter. Our kids are now 11 and 8.
  2. My role in the Hedland community is CEO at Well Women’s Centre. This is a position I am absolutely honoured and blessed to have been given. I love my role within the community and within the organisation that holds an amazing and special Hedland history of supporting women.
  3. I wanted to be a member of the Hedland Collective Steering Committee because I have always believed that better outcomes can be achieved together. Collective impact brings parties together for effective results. A community cannot be what it is with one player. All parts play a vital and important role in shaping a healthy and vibrant community. I like the concept of Collective Impact because it shouldn’t be about anyone’s own agenda but for the benefit of the community as a whole. Collective Impact should move us away from a silo mentality and take out the ego. I think the Hedland Collective is a great start, however we also have a long way to go.
All parts play a vital and important role in shaping a healthy and vibrant community.
  4.  I am passionate about people living healthy lives. Supporting one another to create healthy relationships, healthy minds and healthy bodies. I love the role women play in this; therefore I am passionate about women’s holistic health.
  5. A little-known fact about me is that – before I started with Well Women’s Centre I wanted to do more in this town for men’s health as there are some serious gaps for our men. I feel they need much more support and this would also help our women and children. I pursued this for a little while, however I realised that as I was not a man, I should just play to my strengths as a woman (haha). But I will always believe in empowering both men and women to step courageously into living a healthy life.
